Location

The resort is located in Irvington, VA, tucked away on a private, lush peninsula in Virginia's Northern Neck, which is bound by the Chesapeake Bay to the east, the Potomac River to the north, and the Rappahannock River to the south. The Tides Inn sits on a bluff overlooking Carters Creek, surrounded by manicured grounds.

The Northern Neck of Virginia was called the "Athens of America" during the 18th century for its great plantations and great minds. Three presidents — George Washington, James Madison and James Monroe—were born here, as well as Robert E. Lee. Today, the region boasts picture-perfect towns laced with old Indian trails, colonial roads, and tidal creeks.

General Lee's birthplace (Stratford Hall), George Washington's birthplace (Wakefield), the Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library (housing one of the Southeast's largest collections of genealogy records), Historic Christ Church (built in 1735), Northern Neck Wine Trail, and Colonial Williamsburg are all within an hour's drive.

In recent years, Virginia has been attracting attention to its increasing amount of vineyards and wineries. The Tides Inn is located along the Chesapeake Wine Trail, and wine tours have become increasingly popular with leisure and group guests.

Services

Concierge, room service, and two specialty boutiques await guests at the Tides Inn. Guest rooms feature complimentary high-speed Internet access, coffee makers, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, in-room safes, mini-bars, CD-clock radios and DVD players. Refrigerators and DVDs are available upon request. Pets are allowed in designated rooms.


Restaurants

Superior dining experiences lead to high guest satisfaction at the Tides Inn. The East Dining Room is the Tides Inn's fine dining restaurant, boasting a view of the Tides Marina and offering guests regional Chesapeake Bay cuisine for breakfast and dinner, paired with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence list. Adjacent to the East Dining Room is the Chesapeake Club, which offers a lighter menu for lunch and dinner, and live entertainment and cocktails are offered throughout the evening. Seasonally, the Pool Grille provides a casual, family-friendly lunch menu with bar service for adults.

Chesapeake Bay Magazine also recognized the property in its annual Best of the Bay awards, the publication named the Tides Inn as the most romantic spot for dinner.


Golden Eagle Golf Club

Opened for play in 1976, the 18-hole Golden Eagle was designed by George W. Cobb who carved the championship course out of a beautiful, wooded landscape around a 50-acre lake. The Golden Eagle measures from 7,025 yards from the blue tees and has a USGA rating of 73.9 and a slope of 136. Bermuda fairways and bent grass putting surfaces play to a par of 72.


The Tides Marina

The Tides Marina, voted "Best Resort Marina" for the past four years by readers of Chesapeake Bay magazine, is a full- service, 60-slip transient marina able to accommodate vessels up to 125 feet. It provides a beautiful and safe harbor for yachts, with the added amenities of a destination resort for its crew. Marina guests enjoy complimentary laundry, excellent shower and bath facilities, cable and phone hook-ups, and van and water taxi services. The Tides Marina guests are encouraged to bring their golf clubs to play the complimentary Par-3 course, or the Golden Eagle Golf Club.

Premier Sailing School is conveniently based at the Tides Inn, offering guests as well as others the opportunity for individual or group sailing classes for all experience levels from ages 6 and up.


The Spa

With eight treatment rooms, the Spa at the Tides Inn offers a range of classic spa treatments and soothing spa products. Each treatment is designed to pamper, nourish, and feed your mind, body and soul, with a variety of spa treatments and packages, ranging from massage, to facials and body treatments, to spiritual sessions. Signature treatments include the Tides of Change Body Treatment and Tides of Change Facial.

The Spa at The Tides Inn also offers a wonderful selection of retail items including skin care, gifts, bath and body products, spa attire and accessories are available for purchase in the spa's boutique.


Crab Net Kids

This daily, supervised program is overseen by the resort's "Fun Team" for kids ages 4-12 and provides a safe and engaging environment for them to explore their talents and interests through activities, games and crafts. Camp themes change weekly, from Captain Hook's Pirates one week to Space Invaders the next. Ongoing activities include crabbing, croquet, swimming, sand sculpting, scavenger hunts, nature exploration and much more.


Meetings

The Tides Inn offers a variety of function space totaling more than 9,000 square feet. The gracious atmosphere of the Tides Inn is a perfect setting for both business and recreational gatherings. Groups of 10 to 150 convene in the Cove Room, four different breakout rooms, and an executive boardroom. The guaranteed comfort of ergonomic leather conference chairs and the delight of unobstructed water views highlight every meeting space. The Lancaster House Suite lends its living room to hospitality events, while outdoor favorites like the beach and boardwalk entertain parties of up to 250 and the manicured lawn hosts up to 400.

The Cove Room is the largest meeting room, offering nearly 2,500 square feet of indoor space and an outdoor deck overlooking Carters Creek. This room is well-suited for outdoor buffets, coffee breaks and small receptions. The Boardroom, The King Carter Room, Virginia Room, Captain's Quarters and The Eagle Room are perfect for conference, classroom or reception-style set-ups.

Resort History

Originally opened in 1947, the Tides Inn has a long history of providing guests, or "Old Friends" as they are affectionately known, with Southern hospitality. The Enchantment Group is continuing that tradition, having completed a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2001 that modernized the public spaces, restaurants, bathrooms, guestrooms, Tides Marina, and Golden Eagle Golf Club.
